Renovations, like a brand new bathroom or deck, can add value to your Santa Barbara home . When the time comes to resell, certain renovations could end up costing you.

Putting in a swimming pool is critical in the hot, dry regions. The thought of pool upkeep is enough to turn buyers away in most of the cooler regions. A house with a pool might not appeal to some families with young children. The new game room is great, but you probably didn't consider how it looks from the outside. A poorly constructed addition, one that does not match the rest of the home, will be tough to sell.

Be careful when following design fads. Certain aspects will date a home, just like wood paneling. When personalizing your Santa Barbara home, be smart and think ahead.
